Lazarus: A Dazzling Sci-Fi That Leaves You Wanting More
What Is Lazarus About –
Some anime entertain. Some make you think. And some — like Lazarus — do both while leaving you speechless at the end.
I dove into Lazarus expecting cool animation and action. What I got was a dark, philosophical sci-fi story that challenged my understanding of power, technology, and human morality. And yet… after everything, I still don’t quite understand the ending.

The Premise of Lazarus –
In a futuristic world where disease is eliminated through a revolutionary drug, humanity thinks it’s on the brink of utopia. But peace never lasts — and that’s where Lazarus begins. A global mystery unfolds, involving secrets, science, and the fine line between salvation and destruction.
The series wastes no time and moves fast. With every episode, the world deepens, the stakes rise, and the questions multiply.
What Makes Lazarus So Captivating –
Stylish animation with smooth, cinematic action scenes
Haunting music and atmosphere that stay with you
Complex characters with mysterious motives
Philosophical undertones about life, death, and choice
And in the middle of it all is EXL — my favorite character by far. Cool, calm, unpredictable. They carry emotional weight in the story without saying much, and I honestly wish the series gave them more space to evolve.
The Ending: Mind-Bending or Just Unfinished? –
Here’s where things get tricky — and no spoilers, don’t worry.
The story builds up with intensity and ideas, but when the final episode hits… it feels incomplete. It’s not that it’s bad — it’s just too short for something so ambitious. Many important themes and events are introduced but not fully explored. The ending tries to be profound, but it may leave you with more confusion than closure.
I kept thinking: “Wait, is that it?”
Still, the emotional punch and atmosphere stick with you long after it ends.
Final Thoughts –
I love Lazarus. It’s beautiful, bold, and brave in its storytelling. It asks big questions. It’s just… short. I feel like we only got half the journey.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely.
Will you fully understand the ending? Probably not.
But will you feel something? Definitely.
EXL stole the show for me. And even though the ending didn’t answer everything, I’m glad I took the ride.
Reflective Questions for Readers –
- Was the end of Lazarus the conclusion of a story — or the beginning of a cycle we weren’t meant to understand?
- Could the real ‘disease’ in Lazarus be something deeper than biology — like belief, control, or memory?
When everything is healed, what becomes of the human need to suffer, to struggle, to feel?
What if the story of Lazarus was never about saving the world… but escaping it?
